How to access Google Classroom

Google Classroom can be accessed from any Web Browser, or by using the Google Classroom app available on the Apple or Android app store.


If using the app, once it is installed, jump to step 3.



Accessing the site from your browser:


1. Open up your web browser and go to: www.google.com/classroom We recommend using Google Chrome for the best Google Classroom functionality.


NOTE: If you currently have your own Google Account or Gmail account, you will need to be signed out of that account.


2. Click the Sign in button in the top corner of the page to sign into “Google Classroom”.


3. You will need to enter your login details.

The email address will be the first letter of your child’s first name, followed by their surname, and then one of the following endings below depending on the year your child is in:


F1: 22@humberstoneacademy.co.uk

F2: 21@@humberstoneacademy.co.uk

Year1: 20@humberstoneacademy.co.uk

Year2: 19@humberstoneacademy.co.uk

Year3: 18@humberstoneacademy.co.uk

Year4: 17@humberstoneacademy.co.uk

Year5: 16@humberstoneacademy.co.uk

Year6: 15@humberstoneacademy.co.uk


So for example, Andrew Parker in Year1 would be: aparker20@humberstoneacademy.co.uk

Katie Fielding in year 5 would be: kfielding16@humberstoneacademy.co.uk


You will then be prompted for your password.

Please contact us if you do not know your password.


NOTE: You may be asked to select what type of account you have. Make sure you select “I’m a Student”.


Once you have logged in to Google Classroom you will see your child’s classes. Click the join button to join that class. You will then be taken to your main dashboard, or “Stream” where you will see the latest updates from your teachers, work that has been set, and resources available to you.


You can then click on the relevant topics and posts to complete work set for you.



Frequently asked questions


Q: What is the best device to use for Google classroom?


A: We reccomend using either a laptop, desktop computer, or a tablet for accessing Google Classroom.

The device should have a built in webcam and microphone so that your child can take part in the live learning meetings.

If using a tablet or other handheld device then using the Google Classroom app available from your app store will make things a lot easier to use.

A laptop is the best device to use for completing written assignments where you need to type.



Q:  Why is Google telling me I am not allowed to access Classroom?


Please make sure that you are logged in with your Humberstone Academy login details.
If you have your own google/gmail Email address then you need to sign out of that account first.

Then login with your Humberstone account.



Q: Do I need a class code?


A: You do not need a class code to join your class. Once you are signed into Google Classroom, your class should be displayed to you. If it is not, please contact us and the teacher will add your child to the class.



Q: I can see my Class. Now what do I do?


A: Once you have clicked on your class you will be taken to the class activity stream. This section displays anouncements and updates from your class teacher. This is the first place to look at in the morning to find out what is planned for the day ahead.

Along the top of the screen you will also see the "Classwork" section. This is where you will find work that has been set for your child. From here you can open up resources the teacher has uploaded and complete work that has been set.



Q: The live lessons / Meetings are not working?


If you are having problems launching the Live Meetings, try installing the Google Meets app from the apple of Google app store. Make sure that you then click on the live links posted by the teachers.

The links will not work if you try to access them after the event has happened.



Q: Is Google Classroom safe?


Humberstone Academy Google Classroom is a safe platform for your children to use and is only accessible by users of Humberstone Academy. We store data only for set purposes and in accordance with GDPR guidelines and policies.
